Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs, is advocating for a transformative revision of Fiji’s Military Forces to restore public faith. During his address at the RFMF reconciliation and restoration program, he emphasized the need for senior officers to exemplify strong leadership traits to inspire the younger generation.
He observed that since the tumultuous events of 1987, public trust in the RFMF has diminished significantly. Ratu Viliame remarked on the missteps and misguided leadership that have caused pain in society, urging a return to the values and sacrifices of their ancestors.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the nation, he called for an end to the historical pattern of involvement in coups and mutinies. His vision is that this moment marks a new beginning for the RFMF, leaving past grievances behind.
Ratu Viliame’s message was clear: a plea to the senior officers to instill a legacy of exceptional wisdom and integrity in the military’s future leaders, guided by divine influence. He expressed hope that by embracing these principles, the RFMF could rebuild its connection with the community it serves.
This call to action presents an optimistic outlook for the future, highlighting the potential for positive change and renewed trust between the military and the public. The military’s commitment to learning from the past and fostering a culture of integrity could be pivotal in reshaping Fiji’s social landscape for generations to come.
