Rebuilding the Great Council of Chiefs: What to Expect in Phase Two?

The reconstruction of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) Vale ni Bose complex is progressing well. The iTaukei Trust Fund Board announced that phase one of the project has been completed and preparations for phase two have begun.

According to the board, practical completion is expected by mid-2025, with all construction scheduled to meet timelines while upholding high quality and safety standards. The project team is focused on executing phase two efficiently, ensuring that each milestone is achieved as planned.

Coordination among contractors, architects, and stakeholders has been smooth, with regular updates and progress checks keeping the project on schedule. The original GCC complex was destroyed in a fire in 2020, and an insurance payout of $6 million is allocated for the reconstruction efforts.

Phase two aims to improve the facility’s functionality and design, aligning it with its intended use. The board expressed confidence that completing this project on time will significantly enhance the space, benefiting not only the Great Council of Chiefs but also future users.

Construction efforts will be led by Pacific Building Solutions.
