Businessman Nahroon Buksh has entered a plea of not guilty in response to charges of obtaining a financial advantage by deception during his recent appearance at the Suva Magistrates Court. The case, overseen by Resident Magistrate Pulekeria Low, revolves around allegations that Buksh impersonated a licensed real estate agent, misleading a couple into purchasing a property in Kinoya that he neither owned nor had the authority to sell.

The prosecution alleges that between December 10, 2020, and August 23, 2021, Buksh deceitfully procured a sum of $6,000 from the interested purchasers through his fraudulent activities. Court sessions revealed that the prosecution intends to call 13 witnesses, while the defense will present only Buksh himself. It is noteworthy that the defense has chosen not to contest certain partial admissions made in a prior caution interview.

The court has adjourned the proceedings until February 3, 2025, with Buksh remaining out on bail during this interim period. This ongoing case underscores the crucial need for integrity and transparency within the real estate industry, reminding consumers to verify the credentials of individuals involved in property transactions to protect themselves against potential fraud.

As the trial date approaches, the community holds a hopeful outlook that these proceedings will reinforce accountability and ethical standards in business practices. This situation presents a vital opportunity to raise awareness about fraud prevention and encourages a culture of vigilance among consumers in their real estate dealings. The legal developments not only focus on seeking justice for the alleged victims but also aim at fostering trust and integrity within the marketplace, contributing to a more responsible and transparent real estate environment.
