Businessman Nahroon Buksh has pleaded not guilty to a charge of obtaining a financial advantage by deception during a recent court appearance at the Suva Magistrates Court, overseen by Resident Magistrate Pulekeria Low. The allegations relate to incidents that occurred between December 10, 2020, and August 23, 2021, during which Buksh is accused of falsely representing himself as a licensed real estate agent and misleading potential buyers regarding the ownership of a property in Kinoya that he did not own.
The prosecution claims that through this deception, Buksh unlawfully obtained $6,000 from a couple who were genuinely interested in purchasing the property. Prosecutor Lavenia Ravuikadavu stated that the prosecution is set to call 13 witnesses, while the defense plans to present only Buksh as their witness. Notably, there are partial admissions from a previous caution interview that the defense has decided not to contest.
The case has been adjourned until February 3, 2025, during which Buksh has been allowed to remain out on bail. This situation highlights the crucial need for integrity and transparency in the real estate market, reinforcing the importance for consumers to thoroughly verify the credentials of those involved in property transactions to avoid potential fraud.
As the trial date approaches, there is a hopeful outlook within the community that the proceedings will emphasize accountability and ethical standards in business practices. The case serves as a vital reminder of the need for vigilance among consumers and the importance of ethical conduct in all business dealings. The community looks forward to a resolution that restores trust and promotes a secure environment in real estate transactions, offering the potential for positive change within the industry.
