Businessman Nahroon Buksh has pled not guilty to a charge of obtaining a financial advantage by deception during his appearance in the Suva Magistrates Court on Thursday. The case, overseen by Resident Magistrate Pulekeria Low, involves allegations that between December 10, 2020, and August 23, 2021, Buksh misrepresented himself as a licensed real estate agent to sell a property in Kinoya that he did not own, consequently misleading a couple interested in purchasing it.

The prosecution claims that Buksh dishonestly collected $6,000 from the couple as part of this fraudulent scheme. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the prosecution plans to call 13 witnesses, while the defense intends to present Buksh himself as the sole witness. Additionally, it was noted that the defense would not contest partial admissions made in a previous caution interview.

The case has been adjourned until February 3, 2025, with Buksh remaining out on bail. This situation underscores the critical need for integrity and transparency in the real estate sector and serves as a reminder for consumers to verify the credentials of individuals involved in property transactions to protect against potential fraud.

As this legal matter unfolds, the community holds a sense of hope that the trial will enhance accountability and promote ethical standards within the industry. The ongoing attention on this case will raise awareness around fraud prevention, reinforcing the importance of scrutinizing business practices in real estate. This presents an opportunity for significant change, fostering a more trustworthy environment for consumers and professionals alike in the market.
