Businessman Nahroon Buksh has pleaded not guilty to a charge of obtaining a financial advantage by deception during a court appearance at the Suva Magistrates Court. Presided over by Resident Magistrate Pulekeria Low, the allegations assert that between December 10, 2020, and August 23, 2021, Buksh impersonated a licensed real estate agent, tricking a couple into purchasing a property in Kinoya that he did not actually own.

The prosecution claims that through this deception, Buksh unlawfully collected $6,000 from the couple who were genuinely interested in buying the property. During court proceedings, it was disclosed that the prosecution intends to summon 13 witnesses, while the defense will present only Buksh himself. Notably, the defense has decided not to contest certain partial admissions made during a prior caution interview.

The case has been adjourned until February 3, 2025, and Buksh has been allowed to remain out on bail. This unfolding legal situation emphasizes the critical need for integrity and transparency in the real estate market, highlighting the importance for consumers to diligently verify the credentials of those involved in property transactions to avoid potential fraud.

As the trial approaches, there is a hopeful sentiment within the community that the proceedings will reinforce accountability and promote ethical standards in business practices. This case serves as an important reminder of the necessity for vigilance among consumers, encouraging them to be thorough in their evaluations when engaging in real estate dealings. Overall, the ongoing developments in this case not only aim to bring justice for those potentially wronged but also work towards fostering trust and integrity within the marketplace, paving the way for a more responsible real estate industry.
