The safety of citizens during the approaching festive and cyclone seasons hinges on the preparedness and responsiveness of law enforcement. This assertion was made by Divisional Police Commander East (DPC/E), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Joape Cakacaka, during an operational readiness check parade held on Thursday in Nausori, where officers from the Eastern Division gathered.
SSP Cakacaka, who recently took office, conducted his inaugural parade to instill a spirit of professionalism among the officers. He emphasized the need for discipline, integrity, respect, humility, and professionalism within the force. “As guardians of peace and safety, it is crucial that we embody these values in our actions,” he remarked.
He acknowledged that while the festive season brings joy to the community, it also poses specific challenges that demand a steadfast commitment to duty from law enforcement personnel. Cakacaka reminded the officers that their conduct reflects not only on them personally but also on the entire Fiji Police Force, highlighting the importance of community perception.
The Eastern Division, which encompasses areas such as Nakasi, Nausori, Naitasiri, Tailevu, Rewa, and the Lomaiviti group, underwent checks on both land and maritime resources during this operational readiness exercise. SSP Cakacaka reiterated, “The safety of our citizens depends on our readiness and responsiveness,” urging the officers to maintain their dedication to high standards of service delivery.
This proactive approach to preparedness is essential, especially as the community looks forward to celebrating the festive season while dealing with the weather challenges posed by potential cyclones. It’s a time for law enforcement to demonstrate their commitment to public safety, fostering a sense of security among the citizens they serve.
