Former Hurricanes and All Blacks Sevens utility back Salesi Rayasi has been included in the 80-member Fiji Water Flying Fijians squad, as confirmed by head coach Mick Byrne. Rayasi, who has recently signed a two-year contract with French club RC Vannes, continues to carry on the legacy of his father, Filipe Rayasi, a former full-back for the Flying Fijians.

Despite being part of the extended squad, Byrnes did not manage to meet with Rayasi during his recent visit to Europe due to time constraints, as the winger was in Paris, which was significantly far from his location. In his time with Vannes, Rayasi has already played 20 matches and scored four tries, showcasing his continued form on the field.

Byrne has noted that the current squad includes players based both in Europe and those from the Fijian Drua, indicating a diverse and expansive selection process. Rayasi’s move to Vannes comes after a successful stint with the Hurricanes, where he played 51 games and scored 30 tries in Super Rugby.

The article expresses a hopeful outlook on Rayasi’s future with the Flying Fijians team, providing an opportunity for him to represent his heritage at a higher level.

This development not only points to Rayasi’s promising career in France but also highlights the growing talent pool for the Flying Fijians as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
