Ravu Steps Down, Continues as Backbencher

Kalaveti Ravu has stepped down from his position as Fiji’s Minister for Fisheries and Forests following corruption charges, but will retain his seat in Parliament as a backbencher. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka made the announcement, noting that despite Ravu’s resignation, his guilt or innocence will be determined by the courts. Rabuka expressed respect for Ravu, thanking him for his services as Minister, and stated that Ravu would continue to serve the Fijian people as a Member of Parliament. The Prime Minister emphasised his respect for due process and judicial independence while dealing with the charges against Ravu, who has strongly denied the allegations.
