WAME Ratuva played a pivotal role in leading the Yaro Chiefs to their inaugural McDonald Coral Coast Fiji 7s title with a commanding 28-12 victory over the Ravuka Sharks in the men’s cup final. Ratuva’s contributions were crucial throughout the match, particularly evident during a key play in the first half where, after facing a tackle from a Ravuka Sharks player, he skillfully offloaded the ball to Hickes Edward, who scored a converted try.

The passionate player from Vunavutu, Nadroga, emphasized the motivating sentiment he shared with his teammates, stating, “I told the boys throughout the week that it’s not how we start the race, it’s how we finish the race. We are thankful that we were able to achieve what we had set out to do.” Ratuva noted the sacrifices the team made in the weeks leading up to the tournament, which allowed them to claim the coveted title.

In addition to his performance in the final, Ratuva was instrumental in securing their place in the cup final, crossing the try-line during extra time against Police Blue in a tense semi-final. Reflecting on that moment, he expressed gratitude, saying, “The entire team had no more energy to go on in the game, and I’m thankful to God for His help because if it weren’t for Him, we would not have won against Police in that very match.”

As they entered the cup final, Ratuva reinforced the team’s determination, asserting that the outcome would depend on which side desired victory more. The Yaro Chiefs’ outstanding performance not only earned them the title but also a substantial prize of $50,000, marking a significant milestone in their rugby journey. With this win, the Yaro Chiefs have solidified their position as a rising force in Fiji rugby, and their resilience and teamwork serve as an inspiring example for future tournaments.
