Ratu Sukuna Park is set to receive a lighting installation this week, according to Suva City Council chairperson Tevita Boseiwaqa. He mentioned that the council is diligently overseeing the maintenance and operating hours of the park to promote responsible and safe usage, identifying adequate lighting as a key component.
Mr. Boseiwaqa stated, “The contractors haven’t fully completed their tasks, particularly the installation of lights on the trees, and that work is expected to be finalized this week.” He noted that the lights are sourced from overseas, causing some delays. As a result, the council is currently restricting park hours.
He highlighted the necessity of upholding the park’s intended purpose, especially during busy times on Fridays and Saturdays. Mr. Boseiwaqa acknowledged the public’s compliance with park regulations, expressing gratitude for their cooperation.
“I am pleased to report that the community is taking care of the park. However, our ultimate goal is to ensure the park remains functional and well-maintained,” he added. He also pointed out that temporary lights are in place around the park, and subsequent improvements will be evaluated once the lighting installation is completed.
