Ratu Sukuna Park is set to reopen on August 19, marking the end of a lengthy delay. Suva City Council’s acting CEO and chairperson, Tevita Boseiwaqa, acknowledged in an interview yesterday that they have been aware of public concerns regarding the prolonged closure.
Boseiwaqa explained that various factors contributed to the delay, including changes to the park’s design, which initially included plans for a café. He noted that removing the café from the plans reduced the project cost from $13 million to $7 million.
The park will feature several enhancements, including a larger podium compared to the previous design, along with new benches, charging ports, and improved lighting. To ensure safety, fencing will be added around the park. Boseiwaqa also urged the public to treat the park with respect, emphasizing that everyone shares the responsibility to maintain its condition for communal enjoyment.
