"Battle of the Mountains: RSMS Athletes Gear Up for Glory!"

Ratu Sukuna Memorial School Athletes Gear Up for Fiji Finals in Epic “Battle of the Mountains”

Athletes from Ratu Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS) are in high spirits as they prepare for the impending zone meet and the Fiji Finals, following an intense inter-house competition at the HFC Bank Stadium. This year’s event, themed “Battle of the Mountains,” engaged over 200 competitors and served as a notable stage for talent identification and selection.

The competition featured spirited contests among four houses: Korobasaga (red) from Namosi, Uluiqalau (blue) from Taveuni, Setura (yellow) from Bua, and Nakauvadra (green) from Ra. A standout performance came from deputy head girl Loata Bau Lewageena, who not only excelled at last year’s 50th New Zealand Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships by winning gold in javelin but also set new records in both javelin and discus during these inter-house contests, further underscoring her remarkable capabilities.

Vice Principal Kuini Lebobo Vitukawalu expressed her enthusiasm for the potential of several athletes to achieve gold medals at the Fiji Finals. She emphasized, “We have a few students with the potential to win gold medals at the Fiji Finals, and we are banking on them to perform well at the zone meet.” Kuini praised the sportsmanship and team spirit displayed by students and acknowledged the vital support received from parents, teachers, and students from Fiji National University (FNU) in organizing this event.

Similar inter-house competitions at other schools, such as Lelean Memorial School and Dilkusha Methodist High School, reflect a shared commitment across Fijian institutions to prepare students for larger athletic challenges. These events not only foster teamwork and personal growth but also create a supportive community for young athletes.

As RSMS waits for the final announcement regarding the inter-house champions, the school remains focused on developing its athletes and equipping them for national success. The passion and dedication demonstrated by these students signal a promising future for athletics in Fiji, with hopes that they will continue to thrive and contribute to a vibrant sports culture.
