People in the northern region of Fiji are being encouraged to gather in large numbers for the much-anticipated 2025 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl, set to take place on Thursday and Friday at Subrail Park in Labasa. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jovilisi Leweniqila, who is spearheading the organizing committee, has emphasized that Labasa is fully prepared to host this significant annual event.
“We have engaged with the special administrator, local business owners, market vendors, and residents to ensure they are all aware and excited for the Ratu Sukuna Bowl 2025,” Leweniqila stated. This is particularly noteworthy as it will be the first time the event is hosted in Labasa, a decision that aims to give the Northern communities a chance to experience the festivities firsthand, rather than just watching from afar.
Leweniqila has called on those from Viti Levu to allow the people in the North, particularly from Cakaudrove, Bua, and Macuata, to enjoy the Ratu Sukuna Bowl, suggesting that this is an opportunity for regional pride and local engagement. The soccer match is set to kick off on Thursday at 11 AM, while Friday’s events will see the women’s match begin at the same time, followed by the main rugby match at 3 PM.
In conjunction with the Sukuna Bowl, competitions in boxing, touch rugby, and oldies rugby are scheduled to take place today at Nasova, adding to the excitement surrounding the event. The collaboration between various stakeholders in the community reflects a spirited commitment to ensure a positive and united atmosphere as local teams compete for glory.
Previous Sukuna Bowl events have underscored not only the spirit of sportsmanship but also the importance of community, discipline, and service in addressing significant social issues. The Ratu Sukuna Bowl serves as a vibrant platform for sporting excellence while promoting crucial messages about healthy living and unity within the community. As anticipation builds, the event promises to be not just a competition but a celebration of culture, community pride, and sports enthusiasm that can invigorate local economies and foster connections among participants and spectators alike.
