The residents of Namara village in Ra warmly welcomed Ratu Josaia Niudamu, the newly appointed Assistant Minister for Justice, during his inaugural official visit for a consultation meeting on Monday. This event marked a significant occasion as part of the Liwativale District consultation, where village elders expressed their joy at having a government representative engage with them, showcasing the community’s eagerness for governmental involvement.

Ratu Niudamu, who assumed office just last Friday, expressed his surprise and gratitude for the heartfelt reception he received. “I arrived for the Liwativale District consultation, and I didn’t expect to be showered with this welcome by the elders of the village,” he remarked, acknowledging the respect and warmth of the villagers.

With a strong legal background as both a lawyer and a chief from Ra, Ratu Niudamu brings considerable experience to his new role. He has over a decade of experience working with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution and has previously run his own legal practice, Niudamu Lawyers. Initially part of the FijiFirst party, he has transitioned to align with the coalition known as the Group of 9 (G9), supporting the government led by Prime Minister Siromi Turaga.

Looking ahead, Ratu Niudamu has demonstrated a commitment to aid Minister Turaga in advancing governmental frameworks leading up to the upcoming elections. He has also hinted at his interest in potentially running for office in the future, indicating a proactive approach to improving governance and restoring trust in public institutions.

This warm reception not only signifies a strong bond between the government and local communities but also suggests a hopeful outlook for Ratu Niudamu’s term. His dedication to listening to the community’s needs offers a promising vision for positive change and effective governance in Fiji, fostering optimism as the country moves forward together.
