The players of the Ratu Navula College under-18 team received a significant boost of confidence on Saturday as a large group of parents, dressed in blue, traveled from the West to support them at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This enthusiastic crowd cheered on the team as they competed against Mahatma Gandhi in the quarter-finals of the Vodafone Super Deans tournament.
Taniela Vocevoce, the president of the parents’ association, expressed that supporters came out in great numbers for the match. “We were eagerly anticipating today’s game, and we have been preparing for a long time,” he stated. Vocevoce noted that nearly every village in Nadi was represented, along with supporters from the 14 provinces residing in the area.
Some parents even traveled from Taveuni to see their sons compete. Vocevoce expressed gratitude for the support of parents from various regions of Fiji, as well as from alumni. “We were already confident that we would return victorious in the national quarter-finals,” he added.
Looking ahead, Vocevoce is optimistic about the crowd turnout for the semi-finals next week. “We are eagerly anticipating next week’s game and believe good things are in store for us,” he remarked. He also emphasized the team’s history with the Dean’s Cup, highlighting their past victories and their determination to reclaim that honor.
Additionally, Vocevoce acknowledged the support and blessings from the traditional leaders of the Vanua of Nadi.
