Ratu Navula College is determined to clinch the Vodafone Deans Trophy this year. This commitment was emphasized by RNC Under-18 team manager Mitieli Qumi following their 16-10 victory over Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in the quarterfinals.
In an interview, Qumi shared that the team’s objective is to restore the prominence of Western teams in the national finals. “MGM were the favorites to win this year,” he noted, mentioning that they looked up to MGM as a powerhouse team during their time in Suva.
The RNC players demonstrated strong defensive skills in the closing moments of the match, successfully holding off MGM’s advances. Qumi acknowledged that while they made it to the semifinal, there remains room for improvements. “There were mistakes, but we will regroup and come back a better team,” he commented.
RNC is now set to face the defending Deans Trophy champions, Queen Victoria School, in the semifinal. “We are focused and ready to play. Our biggest strength lies in the spiritual support from our families and the school,” Qumi stated.
