Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, has expressed her support for Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu as the next President of Fiji. In her statement, Tabuya commended Lalabalavu’s leadership, particularly his advocacy for increased representation of women in leadership roles.
Tabuya, who has worked with Lalabalavu in various capacities, including as Opposition Whip and Government Business Leader, highlighted his fair and capable leadership style. She noted her personal experience of never feeling marginalized as a woman leader in decision-making processes.
She emphasized the importance of having male advocates for gender equality to help break the cycle of patriarchy and confidently endorsed Lalabalavu as a champion for these ideals, believing he would carry this commitment to the presidency.
Ratu Naiqama has accepted the nomination from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, succeeding Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, who withdrew his candidacy earlier this week. The voting for the next President will take place on October 31.
