Ratu Kadavulevu School: Unveiling the Secrets of Champion Player Development

Ratu Kadavulevu School is taking pride in its continued success in developing championship players for its under-17 team. Over the past three years, the school has focused on nurturing talent, especially after several players secured positions with overseas clubs following their victory in the Vodafone Super Deans U15 title in 2022.

The coaching staff and management have committed to maintaining the school’s tradition of developing skilled players. Their efforts paid off yesterday when the under-17 team triumphed, narrowly defeating Marist Brothers High School with a score of 35-34.

“Last year, we had nine players in the final who have since moved on, and we’ve trained another new group of nine players. Who knows, some of them might also find opportunities abroad,” said assistant team manager Metuisela Niufuka. He emphasized that the victory reflects their diligent preparation, asserting, “Preparation is paramount; when you’re well-prepared, success is likely to follow.”

Niufuka noted the extensive preparation that the team underwent, highlighting the importance of discipline and hard work both on and off the field. “Ninety percent of our success is built through our training camps and schoolwork, while only ten percent is executed on the field,” he explained.

The match was tightly contested, with both teams scoring three tries in the first half. The difference came from Lemeki Ravukivuki, whose successful conversions helped Delainakaikai take a 21-17 lead at halftime. “We encouraged the players to stay focused and complete their tasks, and I commend them for adhering to the game plan until the final whistle,” Niufuka stated.

The second half mirrored the intensity of the first, with both teams trading tries. Marist’s two consecutive tries kept the RKS supporters anxious as the score tightened to a mere point difference. However, strong defense from RKS in the final moments proved crucial, forcing Marist’s attacks to falter and securing the victory.

From the previous year’s championship team, three players have already signed contracts with clubs in Japan, New Zealand, and Australia.
