Hundreds of alumni from Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) gathered at Albert Park yesterday to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, the chief guest, emphasized the school’s significant influence since it was founded in 1924. He acknowledged RKS for its century-long legacy and its contributions through notable graduates who have impacted the nation’s progress. The week-long festivities include a variety of events and sports competitions.
RKS, named after Ratu Penaia Kadavulevu, the great-grandson of Ratu Cakobau, boasts a proud history that the community is honoring. The commemoration began on Sunday with a church service at Centenary Church in Suva.
Today’s highlight is a program titled “Training and Investment Opportunity,” taking place at the Suva Civic Centre from 5:30 PM to 11 PM. This initiative aims to assist alumni facing employment challenges by providing various ministry sessions focused on empowerment and guidance.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, will feature Wellness and Sports Day at Albert Park starting at 3 PM, with a competitive event between RKS and nearby Queen Victoria School.
On Thursday, the celebrations will kick off with a traditional ceremony led by chief guest Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, the Vunivalu na Tui Kaba, offering current students insights into traditional cultural practices. This will be followed by a pass-out parade with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander, Ro Jone Kalouniwai, as the chief guest.
Prime Minister Rabuka also urged the school community and parents to collaborate with the government in addressing drug abuse issues, expressing hope that RKS will continue to serve as a beacon of hope for the nation in the future.
