The Ratu Filise men’s sevens team is gearing up to battle for the championship at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament this weekend, which will take place at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka starting Thursday. Head coach Etika Tovilevu expressed that the players are excited to demonstrate their skills, despite facing challenges in preparation during the festive season.

Tovilevu noted that while training was somewhat disrupted, the last two weeks have seen the team come together and focus on enhancing fitness, which is pivotal for their success in the tournament. “Fitness is one of our weaknesses that we need to improve on before the games,” he stated. He urged his players to elevate their performance to meet the high standards expected during the competition.

This year’s tournament will feature 16 teams, including some of the top contenders from Fiji and internationally recognized teams, promising an electrifying atmosphere. “We are ready for whatever comes during this tournament,” Tovilevu commented, encouraging his players to give their best efforts throughout the three-day event.

Ratu Filise has a storied legacy in Fiji’s rugby landscape and will be keen to assert themselves among formidable rivals, including the reigning champions Fiji Airways and other notable teams from New Zealand and Samoa. The tournament stands not just as a competitive arena, but also as an opportunity to foster community spirit and support for local rugby.

Fans and supporters are encouraged to attend in large numbers, creating a vibrant environment for the teams. The Coral Coast 7s is anticipated to be a thrilling showcase of rugby talent, offering an inspiring platform for emerging players to shine while reinforcing Fiji’s robust rugby culture.

In summary, the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament is a significant event for Ratu Filise and the rugby community, showcasing not only the athleticism and skills of the players but also celebrating the unity and passion that rugby brings to Fiji.
