Ratu Filimoni Memorial Clinches Double Title at Ba Primary Athletics Zone Meet

Ratu Filimoni Memorial School clinched a commanding victory at the Ba Primary Schools Athletics Zone Meet, securing both the boys’ and girls’ titles over two thrilling days of competition held at Churchill Park in Lautoka. The school displayed remarkable prowess, with the girls’ team claiming a total of 13 gold, six silver, and five bronze medals, while the boys’ squad contributed seven gold, four silver, and six bronze medals, thus overwhelming the competition.

The meet saw the participation of 31 schools and nearly 1,000 athletes, all vying for a coveted spot on the Ba team for the upcoming Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championships in Suva.

Meet coordinator Meli Tuilevu expressed pride in the event’s success, highlighting the impressive dedication displayed by both teachers and students throughout the competition. “We managed to complete all events on time. We’re impressed with the dedication from teachers and students,” Tuilevu noted. He emphasized Ba’s commitment to assembling a strong team for the national championships, reflecting on last year’s challenges due to unfavorable weather conditions. “This year’s performances were outstanding; we have incredible athletes, and we’ll only take the best to the nationals,” he added.

The anticipation surrounding the announcement of the final Ba team is palpable, with participants eager to showcase their talents on a larger stage. The spirit of camaraderie and competition observed at the event not only reflects the hard work of the athletes but also the support of their schools and communities. Events like these foster not only athletic skill but also inspire the next generation of sports stars. The future indeed looks promising for athletics in the Ba region as excitement builds for the upcoming national championships.
