Ratu Cakobau Bowl Thriller: Fiji Corrections Edge Police in Tight Suva Showdown

The Fiji Corrections Service rugby team proudly claimed victory over their traditional rivals, the Fiji Police Force, winning the ANC Ratu Cakobau Bowl with a tight score of 16-14 at Albert Park in Suva. This match, held this afternoon, showcased the fierce rivalry that has developed between the two disciplined forces, as both teams exchanged tries and penalties throughout the tense contest.

Scoring for the Wardens were Jone Vakawaci and Josua Naivalu, whose efforts, coupled with a resolute defense in the closing minutes, enabled them to secure the win. Despite strong performances from Police forwards Ioane Ligatabu and Rusiate Matai, who each crossed the try line, their efforts fell just short of reclaiming the trophy.

This match comes on the heels of a recent competition in which the Fiji Police Force celebrated their first victory in the Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl, defeating the Fiji Corrections Service 45-31 at the Nasova grounds, marking a significant moment in their 150-year anniversary as they aim to establish the annual challenge. The Police team, under the guidance of head coach Solomone Nute, featured accomplished players and emphasized their commitment to honoring past officers and their legacy.

As rugby continues to thrive and bring communities together in Fiji, the recent match not only highlighted the remarkable athleticism and competitive spirit present in these teams but also the camaraderie and pride that rugby inspires among fans and players alike. The future remains bright for both the Fiji Corrections Service and the Fiji Police Force as they continue to develop their skills and foster the rich tradition of rugby in Fiji.
