Former Member of Parliament and SODELPA General Secretary Simione Rasova has received court approval to travel to Australia for his party’s campaign summer school. This comes despite ongoing legal challenges, including charges related to providing false information to a public servant and allegations concerning the unlawful acquisition of over $21,000 in parliamentary allowances from 2019 to 2020 through misrepresentation of his residency.
Under his previous bail terms, Rasova had been prohibited from international travel and had surrendered his passport to authorities. However, during his recent court appearance, the judge acknowledged Rasova’s consistent adherence to his bail conditions. The court also noted that he had previously been granted permission for overseas travel under similar circumstances, always returning as agreed.
As a result, the court permitted the temporary release of Rasova’s passport, contingent upon him posting a bond of $2,500. The stop departure order against him will be lifted once the bond is secured, and immigration officials will be informed of the court’s ruling.
However, the court mandated that the travel restrictions would resume upon his return on February 6, with his legal proceedings scheduled to continue on March 9. This decision highlights the balanced approach the judicial system seeks to maintain—allowing individuals the opportunity for personal and professional endeavors while ensuring compliance with legal obligations.
