The Sugar Industry Tribunal has announced the official termination of the 2025 crushing season at the Rarawai Mill, set to take effect on Monday, January 12, 2026. Tribunal head Semi Leweniqila made this decision following thorough consultations with both the Chief Executive Officer of the Sugar Cane Growers Council and the Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Sugar Corporation.
The Tribunal’s confirmation of the ruling highlights that this conclusion was reached after comprehensive assessments of the industry and ongoing dialogue with relevant stakeholders. In the official notice, Leweniqila stated, “The Sugar Industry Tribunal has ordered the Corporation to terminate crushing at Rarawai Mill on Monday 12th January 2026.”
In light of this decision, the Tribunal has taken the opportunity to urge farmers and harvesting crews associated with the Rarawai Mill to complete their cane deliveries before the deadline. Registrar of the Tribunal, Timothy Brown, emphasized the importance of this effort, requesting all growers and harvesting teams to make every possible effort to ensure that all cane is harvested and delivered to the mill by the designated date.
This order, issued on January 5, 2026, underscores the Tribunal’s commitment to facilitating a smooth and efficient wrap-up of the crushing season, enabling stakeholders to prepare for the upcoming season effectively. The collaboration among industry leaders reflects a proactive approach to ensuring the viability and sustainability of the sugar industry in the region.
