The new Ramada Encore by Wyndham hotel at Damodar City, Labasa, is set to officially open later this month, complementing the growing hospitality landscape in Fiji. This $6.5 million establishment has already begun welcoming guests, although it is still waiting for some approvals for additional services to facilitate a complete operational launch.

The hotel features 40 rooms, designed to cater to both business and leisure travelers, providing amenities such as a swimming pool, a conference venue, a gym, and outdoor entertainment areas. This marks Labasa’s first international hotel brand, indicating a significant shift in the region’s tourism prospects.

Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka recently visited the hotel, expressing optimism about the arrival of the Ramada Encore as a sign of transformation for the tourism sector in the Northern Division. He highlighted the quality of amenities provided and the unique Fijian hospitality that guests can expect. Furthermore, Gavoka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the tourism development in the North through initiatives like the ‘Na Vualiku’ Tourism Development Programme, which collaborates with the World Bank to enhance tourism infrastructure in the region.

Div Damodar, the CEO of the Damodar Group, emphasized that the introduction of this internationally recognized brand could catalyze further growth, attracting additional brands and enhancing tourism activities surrounding Labasa. The strategic investment of $60 million into the broader Damodar City Labasa project not only signals a positive outlook for local tourism but also promises increased job opportunities and economic growth for the area.

As the Ramada Encore prepares for its official launch, the collaborative efforts between the government and private sector are hopeful signs for the future of tourism in Labasa, aiming to create a vibrant hub that showcases the beauty and potential of Vanua Levu.
