Suva’s tennis community came together today for the official launch of the 2025 Vodafone Suva Open, where a robust vision for the future of the sport was presented. Organizers emphasized the importance of junior development, national pride, and grassroots enthusiasm in advancing tennis in the region.
During the event, Vice President of the Suva Tennis Association, Daniel Naidu, announced that this year’s tournament builds on the momentum of a record-breaking 126 entries from last year, highlighting the continued support of Vodafone, celebrating its third year as the main sponsor.
“The Vodafone Suva Open as we know it began in 2022 and has seen consistent growth. It attracts top talents from Fiji as well as leading players from the Pacific, offering high-level matchups in the open categories,” Naidu stated.
A significant focus was placed on fostering the next generation of players, with the Suva Schools Tennis Program already introducing hundreds of primary students to tennis. The Head of Recharge and Distribution for Vodafone Fiji, Nilesh Singh, reaffirmed this commitment, stating that their sponsorship goes beyond simple financial backing—it’s an investment aimed at building a lasting legacy and ensuring tennis remains accessible and inspiring for all.
Singh praised the efforts of the Suva Tennis Association, coaches, and volunteers who work diligently behind the scenes to elevate the sport, asserting that the tournament showcases the best of Fijian tennis while raising standards across the country.
This year’s Suva Open is not only a platform for competition but also a catalyst for developing future sports stars. It is evident from previous tournaments that increased participation is noted, bolstering a positive trajectory for tennis in Fiji.
As the community looks ahead, the commitment to nurturing young talent through such initiatives fills enthusiasts with hope for a vibrant tennis culture that continues to thrive in the region.
