A significant police presence was noticed today in Rakiraki town and at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court as six individuals faced charges related to the confiscation of 2,630 parcels in Tavua. The atmosphere was tense, with armed officers and uniformed police strategically positioned throughout the town center and patrol vehicles monitoring the major traffic routes leading to the court complex.

As the accused were escorted into the court, police maintained a strong presence both inside and around the courtroom, capturing the attention of onlookers and others attending the court proceedings.

Among those charged are four Ecuadorian nationals and two local men. The local defendants include 24-year-old Bainivalu Suguturaga and 32-year-old Munendra, a carrier operator, both hailing from Veisaru, Ba. The Ecuadorian nationals facing charges are identified as 47-year-old Luciano Sanchez, 30-year-old Jonathan Bermello, 52-year-old Ramon Parraga, and 47-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez, all described as fishermen from Ecuador.

This heightened level of security underscores the seriousness of the charges and the authorities’ commitment to maintaining order during the court proceedings.
