In honor of Mother’s Day, Pastor Stanley Mohamed from the Christian Mission Fellowship has initiated a strong call for heightened education and awareness to combat violence against women. He pointed out that this issue is escalating due to a pervasive lack of understanding within communities regarding the significant roles women fulfill both in society and in spiritual contexts.

Pastor Stanley articulated the need for a holistic approach to address the problem, stressing that cultural and traditional beliefs have skewed perspectives on gender roles, often positioning men as leaders in a manner that can justify the oppression of women. He referenced the biblical account in Genesis 1:27, which affirms the equality of men and women, both entrusted with dominion over creation.

In alignment with this perspective, the efforts of Shamima Ali, coordinator of the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, resonate strongly. Ali has emphasized that indifference to domestic violence is no longer an option and advocates for community intervention when violence is witnessed. She has brought attention to the increase in domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted the critical need for compassion and proactive involvement from individuals.

With concerns echoed by Ani Naivalu from the Centenary Methodist Church, who spoke on modern parenting challenges posed by societal shifts and technology, the united message underscores the imperative of reinstating family values and spiritual guidance. These advocates for change share a hopeful vision that through collective awareness, community support, and adherence to positive spiritual teachings, individuals can overcome the challenging societal norms that perpetuate violence.

Overall, the call for increased compassion, education, and intervention highlights an optimistic movement toward building safer communities for women, children, and families at large. With a commitment to action, there is potential for fostering environments where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
