The annual National Toothbrushing Day celebration, which began 16 years ago, is still actively observed by schools such as Vuya District School in Bua, encouraging student participation. This year’s event saw a visit from the dental team of Nabouwalu Hospital to the school located in Nabouwalu, Bua.
During the official opening ceremony in Suva, Health and Medical Services Minister Dr. Antonio Lalabalavu emphasized that National Toothbrushing Day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the significance of toothbrushing, viewing it as an investment in health, confidence, and future well-being.
The head of Vuya District School, Epeli Rokotuibete, mentioned that the dental team specifically chose their school for the visit. The event took place on July 31, with the school organizing a special program centered on toothbrushing.
During this program, the 183 students at Vuya District received toothbrushes and toothpaste. These dental kits were part of the Colgate toothbrushing initiative, which reached a total of 175,877 participants across schools and organizations.
Colgate-Palmolive (Fiji) Pte Ltd reported that the event concluded with a lively countdown and a ‘brush off,’ where participants nationwide engaged in synchronized toothbrushing, reinforcing their commitment to oral health awareness.
