Members of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Lautoka branch, braved persistent rain last weekend to participate in their regular city clean-up campaign, demonstrating their commitment to environmental service and community involvement. Approximately 30 church members, along with their children, gathered in Lautoka for this initiative, showcasing a shared dedication to maintaining environmental cleanliness.
Led by church leaders, the volunteers traversed a designated route covering areas from SPD through Navutu to the main roundabout and towards the Natabua junction. In spite of the challenging weather, the group collected a significant amount of waste, including plastic, cans, bottles, and paper, filling 12 large sacks.
This community effort was supported by the Lautoka City Council, which assisted the volunteers and provided waste disposal services. A representative from the church emphasized that the clean-up aimed to enhance the city’s cleanliness, reduce environmental pollution, promote civic responsibility among young people, and foster a positive community spirit.
The involvement of children in the clean-up reflects the church’s focus on instilling environmental stewardship from an early age. Witnesses noted the group’s determination as they worked together in the rain, reinforcing the importance of collaboration for a cleaner community.
