Pacific Games triple gold medallist Taniela Rainibogi is making steady strides in his recovery from an injury sustained two months ago and is eager to represent his country to his full potential next year. With a busy schedule ahead for Weightlifting Fiji in 2026, Rainibogi expressed that the Commonwealth Games stands out as the top event he is most excited about participating in.
He made his return to competitive weightlifting at the National Championships, where he observed significant improvements in his performance. In addition, Rainibogi commended the progress made by younger lifters over the past two months, noting their impressive development instills confidence as the team looks ahead to the upcoming season.
“Next year will be very busy for us, and everyone is working hard to achieve their goals. For me, I’m primarily focusing on the Commonwealth Games,” Rainibogi stated.
He also took a moment to acknowledge head coach Henry Elder for his unwavering support and commitment to the team and the sport, attributing much of his growth and success in weightlifting to Elder’s mentorship.
Rainibogi’s determination and the fostering of talent among younger athletes reflect a positive outlook for the future of Fiji’s weightlifting scene, as they gear up for the challenges that lie ahead.
