Twenty-year-old Raina Kumar emerged victorious in the Women’s Division at the Denarau Pro-Am Open held yesterday. As a first-year MBBS student at Fiji National University, Kumar shared her excitement about the win, stating that due to her demanding studies, she has limited time for golf. Despite this being only her third competition, she felt a gratifying sense of accomplishment after clinching the title with a gross score of 73.

In the Professional Division, Abid Hussein won with a gross score of 69, followed closely by Taitusi, who scored 71. The Overall Gross Men’s category saw Shakeel Pillay take the lead with a score of 73, while David Rickey shone in the Overall Net Men’s competition, securing the title with an impressive net score of 66.

The A Grade competition highlighted Rakesh Chand’s performance as he finished first with a gross score of 68, with Indra Warjan and Yasir Ahmed following in second and third places, both scoring 70. In the B Grade category, Damien Chan seized victory with a gross score of 68, while Paras Ram Mama and Alex Pattison took second and third with scores of 71 and 72, respectively. The C Grade division was led by Dharmesh Mani, who also scored 68, followed by Mislin Khan and Nathan Cook.

Lusiana Leqa distinguished herself in the Women’s category by winning the Overall Net Women title with a remarkable net score of 61. Additionally, Samita Kumar and Mrs. Kwon placed first and second among women with net scores of 70 and 73.

Kumar’s achievement serves as an inspiring reminder that determination and passion can lead to success, even amid a busy academic schedule. Her win not only showcases her talent in golf but also sets a hopeful example for others, blending sports with education effectively.
