Emergency operations centers in the Western Division of Fiji are maintaining their readiness as forecasts from the Fiji Meteorological Service suggest continued rainfall through the weekend. Divisional Commissioner Western, Apolosi Lewaqai, has urged the public to exercise caution due to the anticipated weather conditions.

In response to recent flooding, which affected several communities, food rations have been successfully distributed to 61 families currently sheltered in evacuation centers, including Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These centers have seen generous contributions from various organizations, including faith-based groups, non-governmental organizations, and local businesses, which have provided cooked meals, bottled water, food rations, and hygiene kits.

For those needing assistance, support can be accessed through the following contacts:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 6664946
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9937346
– Nearest Police Station: Please contact your local station for emergencies.

This response illustrates the strong sense of community and resilience in times of crisis. As families face the challenges posed by the weather, the support from local organizations and authorities showcases hope and solidarity among the people of Fiji. It’s an opportunity for communities to come together and lend a helping hand to those in need.
