Fiji is bracing for increased rainfall in the coming days, with potential flash flooding expected in various regions. The Fiji Meteorological Service issued a heavy rain alert for the Northern Division as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups. This alert also covers the western and northern areas of Viti Levu, from Momi to Nadi, and includes Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki.

According to the weather office, a trough of low pressure accompanied by clouds and rain is currently affecting the western and northern parts of Fiji, with plans for it to gradually extend to the rest of the country by tomorrow. A north to easterly wind flow is prevalent across Fiji at this time.

The forecast predicts sporadic rain, heavy at times, along with thunderstorms for the Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, as well as Viti Levu and nearby smaller islands. Isolated thunderstorms are also likely, which could result in heavy downpours and the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas, creating wet roads and reduced visibility.

As communities prepare for the expected weather conditions, it’s essential to stay updated with the latest warnings and take precautions to ensure safety. This situation highlights the need for awareness and preparedness during adverse weather, helping to mitigate risks for residents and travelers alike.

In summary, Fijians should remain vigilant as heavy rain alerts are in effect, and potential flash flooding may occur in several areas. It’s an opportunity for communities to come together and support one another during these challenging weather conditions.
