Police confirmed that a recent raid conducted on a residence in Denarau, Nadi, uncovered a substance that tested negative for illicit drugs, identified as a white powder. However, further analysis of dried leaves found at the same location tested positive for marijuana. Following the raid, a businessman was taken into custody for questioning but has since been released as investigations remain ongoing.

This operation is part of Fiji’s sustained efforts to tackle drug-related crime. The Fiji Detector Dog Unit has recently conducted similar operations across various regions, including Lami and Labasa, resulting in several arrests and the confiscation of marijuana and other substances.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted the essential role of community involvement in these efforts, noting that public assistance has been crucial in addressing illegal drug activities. Authorities continue to be vigilant and proactive in their mission to foster a safer environment for all citizens.

While this incident sheds light on ongoing drug concerns, it also reflects the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to combat these issues. With ongoing community support, there is optimism that drug-related offenses may decrease throughout the region, paving the way for a healthier, safer community.
