Vusu Raiders are celebrating after their impressive 30-20 victory over Topline Warriors in the Vodafone Cup quarter-final held at Lawaqa Park yesterday.
The Namatakula-based team showed dominance right from the start, exhibiting strong defense and an aggressive offense that allowed them to build an early 24-0 lead. With the home crowd cheering them on, the Raiders continued their strong performance in the second half, tacking on an additional six points. Despite a late rally by Topline Warriors, who scored 20 points, it was not enough to change the outcome, and the Raiders clinched the win with a final score of 30-20.
Team manager Solomoni Tuqiri commended the players for their effort, noting that training was disrupted due to various challenges in the village, including family commitments and other unfortunate events. “We did not have a good session of training in the village as there were many family commitments, lots of deaths, so our players were committed to that, but we thank them for the good result they have produced,” Tuqiri stated.
In the lead-up to this important match, former Canberra Raiders and Fiji Rugby star Noa Nadruku inspired the team. The Raiders will next face Waitaci Titans in the semi-final, following the Titans’ surprising 32-28 victory over Nadera Panthers in another quarter-final matchup. Additionally, Ravoravo Rabbitohs have secured their semi-final spot after defeating Laselase Cowboys 24-18.
