A raid on Wednesday afternoon in Wailevu, Labasa led to the discovery of multiple bags containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that the raid was facilitated through community cooperation, highlighting the support for efforts against the illegal drug trade.
Upon the task force’s arrival at the residence of a 24-year-old suspect, he allegedly attempted to discard the suspected drugs and fled to the rear of the property, where he was apprehended. A search of the premises uncovered several medium and small clear plastic bags filled with the dried leaves thought to be marijuana.
ACP Driu also noted that a 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene. The confiscated substances have been sent for laboratory analysis.
Additionally, ACP Driu mentioned that operations are underway across the Northern Division to target known hangout locations for youths. He emphasized the importance of clearing out individuals lingering in areas frequented by young people, as drug dealers often target them. The police are also focusing on monitoring within educational institutions and have urged school management to enhance their surveillance of those who should not be on campus.
Authorities encourage anyone with information about the illegal drug trade to contact the Crime Stoppers line at 919, assuring that all information will be treated confidentially.
