Jone Raibevu, a standout player known for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final, is thrilled about his selection to the Fijian Drua Academy. At just 17 years old, Raibevu is among 28 players chosen for a specialized three-year training program delivered by Drua coaches and high-performance staff.
As a Year 12 student at Queen Victoria School, Raibevu describes this opportunity as a dream come true. He stated, “I never thought in my wildest dream that I would come this far in my passion for rugby; the place I would only see on television, and now this is my dream coming to reality.”
Raibevu is committed to making the most of this experience, expressing a strong desire to absorb as much knowledge as possible from the coaching staff. He aspires to join the Fijian Drua team and eventually wear the Flying Fijians jersey. “I will work hard and follow the advice that has been given to me,” he added.
In a message to aspiring young rugby players, Raibevu emphasizes the importance of setting goals and diligently pursuing them. The inaugural group of academy players has been selected from 15 local secondary schools across the nation.
This story highlights not only Raibevu’s personal achievements but also serves as an inspiration to other young athletes in Fiji. The establishment of the Fijian Drua Academy reflects a growing commitment to nurturing local talent and providing opportunities for the next generation of rugby stars.
