Jone Raibevu, known for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final, is filled with excitement as he embarks on his journey with the Fijian Drua Academy. At just 17 years old, he is one of 28 players chosen to undergo specialized skills training with Drua coaches and high-performance staff over the next three years.
As a year 12 student at Queen Victoria School, Raibevu expressed his joy at being accepted into the prestigious Drua Academy, stating that this opportunity is a dream come true. “I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would come this far in my passion for rugby; this is my dream coming to reality,” he shared.
Raibevu is determined to seize every opportunity presented to him by the management and coaching staff of the Fijian Drua. He emphasized the importance of the advice he received from the coaches, stating that he is committed to achieving his aspirations of being part of the Drua team and donning the Flying Fijians jersey in the future. “I will work hard and follow the advice given to me,” he added.
He also took the opportunity to inspire young, aspiring rugby players across the nation, encouraging them to set goals and diligently work toward achieving them. The first group of academy players was selected from 15 local secondary schools around Fiji, indicating a promising future for rugby in the country.
