Semi Radradra may be on the verge of leaving Lyon mid-season, with speculation that the Fijian centre is set to join a franchise in Japan. The twenty-cap Fijian international is contracted with LOU until June 2025, but reports indicate he has received multiple offers from clubs in the Top League and is likely to accept one.
At 32 years old, this potential move could be one of the most lucrative of his career. Radradra has faced a tough period at Lyon, managing only fifteen appearances and scoring one try since his arrival.
In anticipation of his departure, Lyon is reportedly considering options to replace Radradra. The club has expressed interest in Iosefo Mafi from Fijian Drua as a possible successor, and has also reached out to Toulouse’s Ange Capuozzo and Timoci Tavatavanawai from the Highlanders.
Originally from Suva, Radradra began his career in Sevens before transitioning to rugby league, signing with the Parramatta Eels in Australia’s NRL in 2013. During his tenure with the Eels, he played 94 games and scored 82 tries, gaining a reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous wingers.
In 2017, he switched to rugby union, signing with Toulon, where he played 21 matches and scored nine tries over two seasons. After leaving Toulon, he joined Bordeaux Bègles, becoming an essential part of their backline and scoring ten tries in 22 appearances.
His impressive performances in France paved the way for a move to the English Premiership, where he played for the Bristol Bears from 2020 to 2023, making 53 appearances and scoring 18 tries. He was instrumental in helping the team win the European Challenge Cup in 2020.
Radradra has represented Fiji in 20 test matches and participated in the 2019 Rugby World Cup, scoring six tries for his national team. His versatility has allowed him to play in various positions including wing, centre, and fullback.
