Radradra’s Mid-Season Move: Off to Japan?

Semi Radradra may be on the verge of departing Lyon mid-season, with speculation indicating that the Fijian center is set to join a franchise in Japan.

The 32-year-old, who has represented Fiji twenty times, is contracted with LOU until June 2025. However, reports suggest he has received multiple offers from Top League clubs and is likely to accept one of them.

His potential move could be among the most financially rewarding of his career, although it would conclude a challenging stint at Lyon where he has made only fifteen appearances and scored just one try since his arrival.

Lyon is reportedly exploring options to fill the gap left by Radradra, with interest in Fijian Drua’s Iosefo Mafi as a possible replacement. The club is also considering Toulouse’s Ange Capuozzo and Timoci Tavatavanawai from the Highlanders.

Radradra, originally from Suva, began his career in Sevens before switching to rugby league with the Parramatta Eels in Australia’s NRL in 2013. Over his time with the Eels, he played 94 matches and scored 82 tries, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous wingers.

In 2017, he transitioned to rugby union by signing with Toulon, where he scored nine tries in 21 matches over two seasons. After his tenure at Toulon, Radradra moved to Bordeaux Bègles, contributing ten tries in 22 appearances as a key player in their backline.

His strong performances in France led him to the English Premiership, where he played for the Bristol Bears from 2020 to 2023, making 53 appearances and scoring 18 tries. Radradra played a role in Bristol’s victory in the European Challenge Cup in 2020.

He has also showcased his talents for the Fiji national team in 20 test matches, participating in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and scoring six tries. Known for his versatility, Radradra has played in various positions, including wing, center, and fullback.
