Racing 92 and Fiji winger Vinaya Habosi has reportedly been detained following a violent incident involving his partner. Reports from France indicate that Habosi was arrested on Sunday evening after a drunken confrontation at his home in Plessis-Robinson, Hauts-de-Seine.

Witnesses informed a French publication that a dispute between Habosi and his wife escalated, resulting in him allegedly pushing her while she was holding their baby. It is reported that after his wife fell to the ground, Habosi began to strike her. Thankfully, the baby was uninjured during the incident, and Habosi’s partner declined assistance from emergency services and reportedly showed no visible injuries.

Sources claim that Habosi appeared to be intoxicated and denied having pushed or hit his wife. He had played in the previous match for Racing 92, contributing to their 33-20 win over Clermont in round two of the Top 14.

Racing 92 released a statement acknowledging the allegations against Habosi, stating, “Racing 92 has taken note of the facts alleged against its player Vinaya Habosi. Pending further information from the competent authorities, Racing 92 will refrain from any further comment.”

This incident follows a prior domestic abuse claim against Habosi, which led to the termination of his contract with the Fijian Drua last year. A complaint regarding an alleged assault was filed at the Namaka Police Station in February last year, prompting the Drua to act before the start of the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season.
