Rachna Nath, a former journalist from Fiji Television Limited, has been appointed as the Commissioner of the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). With a robust background in human rights advocacy, strategic communications, and community leadership, Ms. Nath is poised to make a significant impact in her new role.

The TRC highlighted Ms. Nath’s expertise in various areas, including strategic communications, stakeholder management, media management, and digital and social media. Her work has involved conducting advocacy-led behavioral campaigns and drafting research reports on critical human rights issues, notably contributing to a national inquiry concerning the Pacific diaspora in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

In her previous roles, Ms. Nath has demonstrated a strong capacity for influencing government functions and enacting transformational change through targeted advocacy and campaign strategies. She is recognized for her accomplishments in producing films and documentaries across 29 countries, including a notable climate change film showcased during COP 21, which was attended by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Academically, Commissioner Nath holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Politics, a Postgraduate Diploma in International Affairs and International Relations, and an MSc in Human Rights and Politics from prestigious institutions, including the University of the South Pacific and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

This appointment marks a return to Fiji for Ms. Nath, who is well-prepared to address the complex challenges facing the TRC and advocate for meaningful change in human rights across the nation.
