Bola Tafou, the long-distance coach for Athletics Fiji, is calling on athletes to focus on rigorous training if they wish to represent Fiji in the Pacific Mini Games set to take place next year. Tafou, who has coached acclaimed athletes, emphasized the urgency of starting serious preparations as time is slipping away.
He explained that cultivating an athlete’s skills to meet competitive standards typically requires over a year of dedicated effort. Hence, it’s crucial for athletes to begin their training now, particularly to enhance their performance following the 2023 Pacific Games held in the Solomon Islands.
To support this initiative, Tafou has been guiding young athletes at the Athletics Camp, which will run until January, providing them with valuable opportunities to hone their skills. He assured that the coaching staff stands ready to assist any athlete in their training endeavors.
The Pacific Mini Games are scheduled to occur in Koror, Palau from June 29 to July 9, 2025.
This preparation period provides a chance for athletes to grow and push their limits, potentially elevating Fiji’s representation on the international stage. With focused efforts and teamwork, athletes may find themselves achieving new personal bests and bringing home greater recognition for their nation.
