Race for Gold Heats Up at Suva Zone One Athletics!

DAY two of the Suva Zone One Athletics meet promises to deliver exciting competition, particularly in the boys’ division where three schools – Ratu Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS), Sacred Heart College, and John Wesley College – are currently tied with three gold medals each, following a strong performance on the opening day. RSMS, however, holds an advantage due to a higher overall medal count, claiming three silvers and three bronzes.

In the girls’ division, defending champions Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School lead significantly, boasting a tally of eight golds, six silvers, and three bronzes. RSMS follows in second place with five golds and additional medals, while Christian Mission Fellowship College sits in third with two golds, a silver, and a bronze.

Athletics Fiji coach Antonio Raboiliku remarked that the outcome could hinge on the final events today, with the girls’ open grade 3000m race commencing at 8:30 AM at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This setup adds a thrilling layer to the competition, with schools and supporters rallying behind their athletes.

The atmosphere surrounding this event ties into a larger context of school athletics in Fiji, wherein competitions instill a strong spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among students. The upcoming National Championship Coca-Cola Games, slated for April 24-26 at the same venue, adds even more anticipation and excitement for both participants and fans alike.

The dedication shown by schools to nurture athletic talent embodies a hopeful outlook for the future of sports in Fiji, promising an environment where young athletes can flourish and achieve great heights.
