Athletics Fiji’s long-distance coach, Bola Tafou, has called on athletes to focus on rigorous training as they prepare to represent Fiji in the upcoming Pacific Mini Games next year. Recognized for his success in coaching elite athletes, including Pacific Sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro, Tafou emphasized that time is of the essence and that serious preparations need to begin without delay.
He explained that it typically takes over a year to sufficiently develop an athlete’s capabilities to compete at a high level. Consequently, athletes are encouraged to start training now, particularly to enhance their performance following the 2023 Pacific Games held in the Solomon Islands.
Tafou is actively working with young athletes through the Athletics Camp, which will continue until January, providing them the chance to refine their skills. He reassured that coaches are well-prepared and willing to assist any athlete in their training endeavors.
The 2025 Pacific Mini Games are set to take place in Koror, Palau, from June 29 to July 9. This event represents both a challenge and an opportunity for athletes to showcase their dedication and growth in the sport.
With the right commitment and support, there is hope that Fiji’s athletes will rise to the occasion and make a significant impact at the Mini Games.
