Athletics Fiji’s long-distance coach, Bola Tafou, has called on athletes to make serious commitments in their training as they prepare to represent Fiji in the upcoming Pacific Mini Games slated for next year. Known for coaching renowned athletes such as the Pacific Sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro, Tafou emphasized the urgency of beginning rigorous preparations immediately.
He pointed out that developing an athlete to reach optimal performance levels typically requires over a year of diligent training. Athletes are encouraged to act swiftly to enhance their results, building upon their experiences from the 2023 Pacific Games held in the Solomon Islands.
Tafou has been actively involved in nurturing young talent through the Athletics Camp, which runs through January, providing these athletes with the chance to sharpen their skills. He reassured prospective athletes that the coaching staff is prepared and ready to offer guidance as they undertake their training journeys.
The 2025 Pacific Mini Games is set to take place in Koror, Palau, from June 29 to July 9, providing an exciting opportunity for athletes to shine on an international stage.
This proactive approach to training signifies not only a commitment to improving individual performances but also showcases the determination of the athletes to elevate Fiji’s status in regional athletics. With the support of experienced coaches like Tafou, and the dedication of these athletes, the future looks bright for Fiji’s representation in the Pacific Mini Games.
