Rabuka’s Vision: Transforming Tailevu Amid Challenges

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has recognized the difficulties facing the nation, stating, “As natives, we are going through a period of challenges and change.”

At the annual gathering for the province of Tailevu held yesterday, Rabuka commended the support the province has provided to the Coalition Government. The two-day meeting is taking place in Vuci, Tokatoka.

Rabuka emphasized significant developments in Tailevu, such as enhancements to wharf facilities in Waidalice and Wainawi, and the improved Namau and Viria water supply systems, which are set to benefit areas within Tailevu soon.

He also outlined ambitious plans for the province, concentrating on sectors including agriculture, fisheries, health, youth development, and poverty alleviation, as well as tackling the issue of illegal drug cultivation.

Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of traditional roles in community leadership, noting their influence in guiding individuals within religious and governmental contexts.

Rabuka pointed out that of the 879 traditional titles in Tailevu, 483 (55 percent) have been filled, leaving 396 (45 percent) vacant. He asserted the necessity for the Council to fill these unoccupied positions.

In addressing societal issues, the Prime Minister discussed the impacts of climate change, cyclone readiness, cultural preservation, and the increasing rates of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), as well as the issues of HIV and the abuse of women and children.

Rabuka concluded by stressing the importance of collaborative planning at the village, district, and provincial levels to ensure ongoing progress and development for Tailevu.
