Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that he is not aware of any concerns raised by the Methodist Church of Fiji regarding Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya’s recent comments. Ms. Tabuya faced backlash for suggesting the death penalty for individuals trafficking large quantities of drugs. Mr. Rabuka mentioned, “No, I have not been informed, I have not heard from the MCIF directly.” At the time of this report, he had not indicated whether he would meet with Ms. Tabuya upon his return to Fiji. Currently, Mr. Rabuka is in Tonga participating in the 53rd Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting, which is set to conclude tomorrow.
